Bournemouth down Brighton in style 0-5

Match Report
13 April 2019
Brighton & Hove Albion 0 v 5 AFCB
Attendance: 30,460
Bournemouth earn their biggest win of the season.
Bournemouth hit top form at Brighton and gave their south coast Premier League companions a harsh beating. The first half was not the best football with neither side fancying the torrential rain and hail at times, but Gosling slotted in a goal to give Bournemouth the lead. The second half was one to forget for Brighton as Ryan Fraser first dropped a delightful shot past Ryan from outside the box to make it 0-2. When Anthony Knockaert was sent off for a poor challenge on Adam Smith, there was just the question of how many goals would the Cherries get? David Brooks slipped in the third and Wilson turned sharply for the fourth, while Stanislas came on to make it five!

Steve Cook made a quick return to the team and Artur Boruc also got a recall. Adam Smith would line up at right back and Aké on the left side in a back four. Nathan Clyne, Asmir Begovic were dropped to the bench. The side was captained by the returning Steve Cook.

The early pressure from Brighton saw Bissouma pull a shot wide after just two minutes. Brighton kept possession for the first few minutes well.

Fraser played a good ball in then or Wilson on four minutes but Wilson couldn't get a good enough touch on the chance which went wide.

Fraser was playing well and looked Bournemouth's best creative player. Lerma was finding it hard to stand on his feet. Bournemouth were getting some possession now after seven minutes.

The rain and hail was really coming down. Gosling made a good challenge in midfield to win possession.

The assistant referee has something in his eye. It's not a great game at the moment, both teams are finding conditions difficult. King and Fraser make a break and Aké's cross finds King but he heads it wide! That was a great chance mist for Bournemouth on 15 minutes.

Bissouma gets a cross in but Locadia miss-hit his shot and it's cleared. Bissouma goes in hard on Fraser. Knockaert puts in a good low cross and Bournemouth were stretched, but Mepham cleared.

Brighton's corner is headed away by Aké. David Brooks hasn't got into the game yet. Brighton have another corner much to the anger of Gosling and Adam Smith. Aké again wins the header. Andone at the far post can't get the ball that comes back in.

Aké fouls Bissouma on the byline and picks up a yellow card in 22 minutes. Steve Cook and Shane Duffy clash heads and AFCB have the free kick.

Knockaert has a wild swing and puts his shot past the post on 26 minutes. Lerma now gets a free kick in his own half.

Andone on the break has hit his cross miles too hard and out of play. The turnovers are rising all the time as both teams struggle to make more than four or five passes. Steve Cook heads out a Knockaert cross.

Brooks coming forward, to Gosling and Wilson, back to Gosling and he has scored bottom left corner on 33 minutes! Brighton were slow to make a challenge and go a goal down. Gosling was very calm, he had loads of time and could have passed it off to King or Brooks, but he fancied his first goal of the season. The move went right through the heart of Brighton\s defence.

Adam Smith is fouled by Dunk. This ball will go into the box. It's just too high Gosling has a shot that flashes over the bar.

A shot from Stephens from distance is spooned wide of the left post. The work rate has gone up, but AFCB are finding their passes despite the Brighton press.

Wilson wins the ball high up the pitch but Brooks can't make the most of it. Gosling crosses for Fraser but he can't get a boot to it. Gosling had thought he'd laid in the second goal there. Much better form the Cherries.

Ryan makes a poor clearance but Brighton get away with it and Brouc has to come out at the other end. Adam Smith comes forward with Fraser and Aké. King gets involved and Lerma, then a long shot from Steve Cook is kept out by Ryan low to his right.

It's been a better performance than of late by Bournemouth today. Confidence is coming back. Just a minute of time added. Brighton are going from side to side and that is half-time. Bournemouth have had five shots and two shots on target against Brighton's two shots and none on target - quiet so far for Artur Boruc. Bournemouth are yet to win a corner. Possession is fairly even with Bournemouth edging it at 51 per cent.
Brighton's Seagull is scared off.
Second half
Lots of sun about at the start of the second half. Chris Mepham does well in a tight spot. Something is up involving Mepham and Gosling and a Brighton player. It's a yellow card for Mepham and Andone. A push and head's lent in. Mepham didn't need to do that,

A Brighton free kick and Bernardo's header is too high and Boruc doesn't need to make a save, it's offside.

Mepham's pushed over by Andone now. It's getting scrappy. King against Dunk and some great defending from Duffy just stops Wilson from getting on the end of it on 54 minutes.

Fraser picks out the top corner on the counter on 55 minutes. Wilson gets another assists but Fraser just came into the middle and popped his shot up as he slid and chopped Ryan in the goal to find the top corner 0-2. A stunning goal.

Glenn Murray replaces Andone on 58 minutes. Bournemouth are in control at the moment. Bernardo has a shot blocked. Fraser gets another block in. Adam Smith has to make a backwards header for a corner to Brighton. Gosling clears.

King in the box to Wilson, who keeps the ball in play but only gives the ball back to Brighton. Wilson and Brooks dummy by King to Fraser and King shoots wide. Bournemouth are creating now on the break.

Pröpper is subbed for Izquierdo on 64 minutes. Gosling fouls Bissouma and is carded in the middle if the pitch.

Fraser looks for King in the box but it's drifts over King's head. Brighton are round the back with Locadia and Murray waits for it, but he's robbed by Adam Smith. Adam Smith is caught by Knockaert and it's a red card for Knockaert on 67 minutes. A big lunge by Knockaert but he took Adam Smith's ankle and has to go.

Boruc is carded for time wasting now. Fraser is fouled now by Montoya. Bournemouth will put this into the box. Duffy heads clear.

King and Brooks and Fraser back to Brooks and it's 0-3 to Bournemouth! 72 minutes gone.

Locadia has a go for goal from distance but he still hasn't had to make a safe. King is being subbed for Solanke.

There is no pressure on Bournemouth now. Brighton only have 10 men and are backing off with the goal count at 0-3.

Just 10 minutes to go, can AFCB keep their clean sheet. Fraser comes forward and Wilson has made it 0-4 great turn and shot!!

Amazing finish from Wilson and he enjoyed that. Now he is being subbed for Stanislas. Brooks comes forward and Aké, Solanke heads and Brighton clear.

Great move by Bournemouth and Solanke is blocked but wins a corner. Steve Cook is subbed for Jack Simpson and Gosling takes over the captaincy. Solanke has a shot charged down and Brooks back to Gosling is blocked.

Aké is getting forward now. Lerma and Brooks to Solanke and Ryan makes a near post save. Fraser and Brooks but Stansials loses his footing.

Dunk has a shot that goes wide for a corner. Four minutes of added time to go. The header goes back across goal and Borcuc makes a save from Burnardo.

Lerma wins the ball. Brooks and Stanislas it's 0-5. Brighton are being stuffed! This is turning into a slaughter.

Solanke and Stanislas. Solanke on a run, Gosling blocked and Fraser goes over - no penalty. Champagne football!
Bournemouth fans enjoy a great day out.
Summary
Bournemouth are now safe and can relax and play their football without any nerves. This was a comprehensive win in the need, but the first half was far from easy early on. The return of Steve Cook was a big help to the confidence and with Gosling getting in the right area to hurt Brighton, Bournemouth had a deserved leave by half-time. Ryan Fraser was an absolute menace which Brighton didn't deal with all afternoon, while Brooks shined late on. Eddie Howe will be pleased that Boruc had a quiet afternoon having been recalled and the clean sheet and away win are big statements. Why, oh why couldn't this have come a few weeks ago though? Injuries have been a problem, but we haven't seen this kind of display since the home win against Chelsea and the away win against Fulham. The swagger was back and the determination to score more right to the end. If the identity had been lost it has certainly been found now. UTCIAD!
